National Defence University: Admissions for Spring 2013

National Defence University (NDU), an apex institution in the field of defence and security, has announced of admissions to M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs for session Spring 2013.

M.Sc.

(2 years morning and evening program)

Eligibility Criteria for Admission:

  • Bachelors degree with minimum 2nd Division or equivalent from Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized universities/DAIs.
  • Merit will be determined on the basis of previous academic record, NDU entry test and interview.

Government and Public Policy (GPP) (Morning)

Requirements: B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent with minimum 2nd Division.

Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) (Evening)

Requirements: B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent with minimum 2nd Division.

Strategic and Nuclear Studies (SNS) (Morning)

Requirements: B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent with minimum 2nd Division.

International Relations (IR) (Morning and Evening)

Requirements: B.A./B.Sc. or equivalent with minimum 2nd Division.

Leadership and Management Studies (LMS) (Morning and Evening)

Requirements: BBA/B.Com./B.A./B.Sc.with minimum 2nd Division.

M.Phil.

(2 years morning and evening program)

Eligibility Criteria for Admission:

  • Master’s and Bachelor (Hons) (minimum 16 years schooling) or equivalent degree with minimum 2nd Division from HEC recognized universities/DAIs.
  • GAT (General)/GRE with minimum 50% marks.
  • NDU entry test is mandatory.
  • Those who have already qualified GAT (General)/GRE, will be exempted from GAT but not NDU Entry Test. (Attach the attested copy of GAT result with admission form)
  • Merit will be determined on the basis of previous academic record NDU / GAT tests and interview.
  • HEC Indigenous Scholarship holders are encouraged to apply.

Government and Public Policy (GPP) (Evening)

Requirements: Master or equivalent in Government and Public Policy, Public Administration, Management Sciences, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies, Pakistan Studies, Statistics and IT or other relevant subjects.

Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) (Morning)

Requirements: Master’s or equivalent in Peace and Conflict Studies, Diplomatic Studies, Economics, Geography, History, International Relations, Journalism, Law, Pakistan Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology.

Strategic and Nuclear Studies (SNS) (Evening)

Requirements: Master or equivalent degree in Strategic and Nuclear Studies, Diplomatic Studies, DSS, Strategic Studies, International Relations, Journalism, Political Science, War Studies, Security Studies and Governance Studies.

International Relations (IR) (Morning/Evening)

Requirements: Master’s or equivalent degree in International Relations, Diplomatic Studies, Journalism, Strategic Studies, Defence and Strategic Studies, Political Science, War Studies and Security Studies.

Leadership and Management Studies (LMS) (Evening)

Requirements: M.Sc. (LMS), MBA, MPA, M.Com., BBA (Hons), ICMA, CA

Ph.D.

(3-5 years program)

Eligibility Criteria for Admission:

  • M.Phil./MS/equivalent (18 years of schooling) with minimum 3.0 CGPA/First Division (in the Annual System). 1st Division in terminal degree from HEC recognized universities/DAIs.
  • Must have passed GRE (International)/GAT subject with 60% (for IR and LMS) and 70% for (GPP) before admission.
  • Admission will be determined on the basis of previous academic record, research proposal.
  • All employees serving in government/semi government organizations are required to submit NOC from their respective departments along-with application.
  • The terms and conditions of admission shall be equally applicable to government employees/ nominees.
  • All candidates must submit their detailed marks certificate and course description of M.Phil./MS degree to evaluate the status of courses.
  • Foreign degree holders must provide equivalence certificates (18 years of schooling) from HEC along with application.
  • Candidates applying for admission are required to submit Ph.D. Research Proposal including a statement of interest (5-8 pages) that addresses the reasons for choosing the Ph.D. program and the field of study.

Government and Public Policy (GPP)

Requirements: M.Phil./MS or equivalent degree with minimum 3.0 CGPA in Public Policy, Public Administration, Management Sciences, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Development Studies, Pakistan Studies, Statistics our other relevant subjects from HEC recognized university/DAI.

International Relations (IR) (Evening)

Requirements: M.Phil./MS or equivalent degree with minimum 3.0 CGPA in International Relations, Diplomatic Studies, Journalism, Strategic Studies, Defence and Strategic Studies, Political Science, War Studies and Security Studies, Public Policy and Strategic Security Management from HEC recognized university/DAI.

Leadership and Management Studies (LMS)

Requirements: M.Phil./MS or equivalent degree with minimum 3.0 CGPA in LMS.

Admission Form

Apply online on admission system available at National Defence University website. Admission forms can also be obtained from NDU Registrar’s Office.

In addition to applying online, form filled in all respects along with copies of academic testimonials, 3x pictures and pay order/demand draft in favor of NDU is to be mailed on address given below /submitted in person.

Admission form processing charges are Rs.300 in cash or bank draft/ pay order in favor of NDU Islamabad.

Other charges (M.Phil. and Ph.D. students only):

  • GAT (General) candidates (M.Phil. only) will be required to pay Rs.900 separately in cash or bank draft/ pay order in favor of NDU, Islamabad.
  • GAT (Subject) candidates (Ph.D. only) will be required to pay Rs.1,500 separately in cash or bank draft/ pay order in favor of NDU, Islamabad

  • Result awaiting students can also apply with hope certificate of getting 2nd Division at least (for admission in M.Sc. program only).
  • GAT (General) and NDU Entry Tests for M.Phil. and GAT (Subject) for Ph.D. candidates will be held at the NDU Campus.
  • Quota: FATA (two seats per department for M.Sc. and M.Phil. programs)
  • Limited transport facility for Rawalpindi/Islamabad is available.
  • Incentive Scholarships for high merit achieving candidates on admission.
