NUST Direct Indigenous PhD Program 2010

National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has invited applications for admission to the Direct Indigenous Ph.D. Program in the disciplines of Engineering, Information Technology, Medical Science, Mathematics and Physics.

Off Campus Program

To facilitate the research of well-established high-tech R&D organizations, an off-campus Ph.D. option is also available at NUST. This is neither a part-time nor a distance-learning program. Details on this this are available on the NUST website.

Eligibility Criteria

  • 18 years of education.
  • GRE Subject (score equal or greater than 45 percentile) or local GRE Subject Type Test conducted by NTS / HEC (score equal to or greater than 50%), as applicable.
  • First division throughout academic career, though a maximum of one second division in SSC through bachelor degree is acceptable, but no third division is allowed.
  • For Engineering and IT: Master / M.Phil. / equivalent (with a four years bachelor degree) in the related field with minimum CGPA 3.0/4.0 or 70% marks.
  • For Basic Medical Sciences: MBBS and M.Phil. (minimum 70% marks), or MBBS plus FCPS (Basic Medical Science Subjects)
  • For Virology and Immunology: M.Phil. with minimum CGPA or 3.0/4.0 or 70% marks (with M.Sc. and B.Sc. in relevant disciplines).
  • For Mathematics / Physics: M.Phil. / equivalent in Mathematics / Physics or related field with minimum CGPA or 3.0/4.0 or 70% marks.


Sufficient number of NUST scholarships are available for Ph.D. students.

  • Stipend at the rate of Rs.10,000 to Rs.18,000 per month.
  • No tuition fee.
  • Supervisor remuneration at the rate of Rs.50,000 per annum.
  • Lab and Research Material fund at the rate of Rs.100,000 per annum.

Other Financial Incentives

  • Reimbursement of registration fee for international GRE Subject Test (only once).
  • Financial Support for presenting or publishing research papers within Pakistan and abroad.
  • Opportunities for collaborative research with well reputed foreign universities.
  • No tuition fee for self-sponsored Ph.D. students also.

Important Notes

  • Admissions are open since May 10, 2010. Application forms can be downloaded from the NUST website.
  • Prospectus is available from designated branches of Askari Commercial Bank.
  • Last date for submission of Application Form for joining Fall Semester is June 21, 2010.
  • NUST institution code to receive international GRE Subject Score is 7014.
  • Admission to direct Ph.D. program will only be confirmed if applicant clears the GRE Subject / GAT Subject type test (as applicable) before start of the program.

    Ihave earned an M.Phil degree from Quaid -I-Azam University in the decipline of Biotechnology and my reseach topic was ; Production of Taxol(Paclitaxel) an anticancerous agent fron the endophytic fungi of taxus wallichiana tree. Now can i take addmission or i m elligible for the Phd program in the decipline of Pharmacology and virology and immunology, please help.
