University of Sindh: Admission to MA Economics for 2011 (Distance Education)

Directorate of Distance Education, Elsa Kazi Campus, Hyderabad, University of Sindh has invited applications for admission to M.A. Economics Distance Education program for session 2011.

The University has informed that from now on Private/External examination M.A Economics is not allowed.

In Pakistan large number of students appearing annually in graduate and postgraduate examinations in arts subjects as private candidates, in public sector universities without going through any interaction with the teachers and the institutions (affiliated colleges) where they get themselves registered as private/external candidates for graduate and post graduate programs. Consequently, they fail to acquire quality education due to which there is less worth of their degrees and their degrees are not at par with the degrees of regular candidates at graduate and post graduate level.

In order to enhance the quality of education and the worth of the degrees of the private/external graduate and post graduate candidates, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Islamabad has decided to bring the private/external graduate and postgraduate candidates education system under distance mode.

For this purpose the Directorates of Distance Education has been established at the six public sector universities across Pakistan, the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, is also included where thousands of candidates get themselves registered as private/external candidates through the affiliated colleges each year for graduate and post graduate programs.

Under this new initiative of Higher Education Commission, all private/external graduate and postgraduate programs of University of Sindh will be gradually converted into distance mode. In the first phase, the University of Sindh is announcing the admission in M.A. Economics program for private/external candidates for the year 2011 and up to 2013 all private programs at graduate and post graduate levels will be converted into Distance Education mode.


B.A./B.Sc./B.Com with minimum 45% marks

Program Fee

Total Fees for two years Rs.23,000 in four equal installments

Application Procedure and Schedule

Application forms can be obtained from Habib Bank Limited, Sindh University, Old Campus branch, Hyderabad, on payment of Rupees 500 non-refundable with effect from March 29, 2011.

Regular application form properly filled in along with necessary documents be submitted personally in the office of the Dean, Faculty of Education, Elsa Kazi Campus, Hyderabad and obtain the photocopy of the receipt of the form.

Last date for submission of admission application form is April 30, 2011.

Last date for the deposit of admission fees is May 25, 2011.

The fees will be paid in Habib Bank Limited, Sindh University, Old Campus branch, Hyderabad. The classes will commence from last week of May 2011.

    I think it is a very good decision. All the subjects must be brought under DE as soon as possible, i have done B.Ed in DE and I will admit that i gained a lot from it. I am waiting for English Literature to come under Distance Education. Expenses are not that much. if u calculate your expenses you will know that it is just 1500/ month maximum. just an approximation, it will not be more than that. I request the higher authorities to bring English literature in Distance Education before the end of 2011 so i may join it and many others are waiting too. Thanks.

    it is not a good decision taken by hec. the DE system is time consuming. in presence of aiou and vu this decision seems awkward. it is very difficult for lower classes to meet the expenses of the desired programme.
